Review
You can spot the work of the best artists – they have their own voice… I saw an original recently: Monroe Hodder's 2011 paintings. They turn a corner from her paintings of 2008 to 2010, but the basic view of color and form are there in all of them… Her work is compelling, fascinating, with its juxtapositions of color and tone… The paintings are dangerous: they are so interesting that if I had one on my wall I'd have to stand (or sit) looking at it so long I wouldn't get anything else done.Richmond Shepard, lively-arts.com, Dec 2011
A Rage for Color
London painter Monroe Hodder barely needs the natural light that floods her gallery show, so brightly do her canvases burn with color. Fields of tiered horizontal bands test the chromatic limits of abstract painting without eliminating associations to landscape and memory.Kenneth Baker, SF Chronicle, June 17 2010
